LNHC School Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills, techniques, and knowledge needed to excel in natural hair care. From foundational styling methods to advanced techniques in braiding, twisting, and loc maintenance, we provide hands-on training that blends creativity with professionalism. With a strong focus on healthy hair care practices, our program prepares students for success in the beauty industry while embracing the artistry of natural hair.

35 Hours – Classroom Instruction

  • History of hair braiding

  • Disinfection and sanitation

  • Bacteriology

  • Disorders and diseases of the hair and scalp

  • OSHA standards on chemicals, hair analysis, scalp care, and technical procedures

  • Personal hygiene and public health

  • Professional ethics

35 Hours – Classroom Instruction

  • Tools and equipment

  • Basic styling knowledge

  • Client consultation and face shapes

  • Growth patterns

  • Braid removal and scalp care

  • Styles and sectioning

200 Hours – Combined Classroom & Clinical Instruction

  • Single braids with and without extensions

  • Cornrows with and without extensions

  • Twists and knots

  • Multiple strand braiding

  • Hair locking/dreading

  • Weave/sew-in

  • Additional procedures related to hair braiding

  • Product knowledge for hair braiding

30 Hours – Additional Instruction

  • Illinois Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, Hair Braiding, and Nail Technology Act of 1985

  • Salon management

  • Human relations and salesmanship

  • Workers’ Compensation Act
